The bear was spotted near Exit 8C around 2:10 p.m. Saturday, June 15, Virginia State Police spokesman Matthew Demlein said.

At 5:48 p.m., a passing motorist said he'd struck the bear but did not stop because he was feeling ill. He was not injured.

Meanwhile, a video shared by Angela Chin and posted to WashingtonianProbs on Instagram shows a young bear scampering along the highway. It was not immediately clear if this was the same bear that was struck.
